Night at the museum
Finally I could go to the exhibition
"American Pop Art - From the John and Kimiko Powers Collection".
I wish the space were a bit bigger
so that we could see big art works from a distance.
but, hey, the collection is stunning !
I appreciate we can see such a great show here in Tokyo.
They are open till 20:00 on Fridays.
and then, we went to the museum shop.
They have a great selection.
I highly recommend you visit here, and
I myself must come back to find some gifts!
For today, I got this hanky embroidered with NY icons.

a postcard
This is a postcard that I sent to friends from NY in 2002 and they framed it.
In 2002, I moved to NY and had sublet my friend's apt in Park Slope, Brooklyn for a month. What I wanted to do first was sending a postcard to my friends in Tokyo.
I know it's only 11years ago, but setting computer and sending e-mail were not easy
like nowadays, at least for me, and sending a postcard with nice design stamps
from abroad makes people always happy anyway.
I was wandering that area and found Barnes and Noble.
They had nice selection of postcards. I chose the one. I just liked it.
Starbucks was in the store, so I got a cup of latte and stayed there for a while
to write down the card that I had gotten NY safely, blah blah.
My English skill was totally awful. I didn't study English before moving there at all
and I couldn't even catch the sound of difference between English and Spanish.
Even ordering coffee made me nervous that time.
Sometimes, all of a sudden, memories in NY come rushing back.

bookworm M
I got a letter from M. We email each other often, but
when she found an interesting article on magazine, newspaper or so,
she sends an original to me instead of scanning it to email.
The word "mongo"was used as a theme of one of magazines few months ago.
Because I don't think I heard the word while I was living in US, I asked her about it.
She said she had never used it either - so we became so curious about 'mongo'.
I gave her the info how it's explained on the magazine.
"I'll research the word and ask G if she has used or heard it in England."
So this piece of an article is what she found.
We are always looking for English topic like this -
grammar or word or whatever - to discuss.
She is my ex-coworker, English teacher, and best friend,
and she is the one who loves to study anything -
especially English, her first language.
" Studying is always fascinating.
I want to live longer as much as I could, so that I could see so many things
that I haven't seen. I want to see where the World goes to. "

past exhibition
Maurizio Cattelan : ALL
at Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum
http://www.guggenheim.org/new-york/exhibitions/past/exhibit/3961

Last view from Sunset Park
last view from Sunset Park - Mar 31, 2012
A year ago today, I completely emptied my apt that I lived 6 years,
and moved to my friend Y's apt for spending my last NY life for 2 weeks.
That time, I had pretty bad issue with my back, so moving was really tough,
even I could say it was like punishment - physically and mentally.
I cleaned up all of furniture, packed up and shipped all stuff I keep to Japan,
gave all plants away to my friend.
I have to say I couldn't finish all chore without my friend's help.
When I saw my room has none besides my bags, I had to accept the reality.
- I am about to move back to Tokyo.
I had mixed feelings about leaving New York.
I liked Sunset Park. Especially the view, from the hill.

Fly Me To The Moon

24/7 laundromat
What do I miss about NY?
friends, museums, food, parks, flea market and.....
to do laundry with sipping a cup of coffee in midnight.

the story behind the quilt
applique quilt top ( detail )
birds and hexagon flowers pattern
artist unknown

The Homeless Museum of Art

hay fever
store window for cold medicine
at Thomas Drugs, NYC ( probably Dec. 2011)
a kid mannequin in satin pajamas was standing in the ”kleenex" ocean
By the way, it's hey fever season.
I may need tons of kleenex..
